How much does a new boiler cost in Cheltenham?

A like-for-like combi replacement in the same place usually costs £2,500 to £4,000, supply and install, according to Checkatrade's UK cost guide ^[S1]. Its average UK total for a gas combi is about £3,000 ^[S1]. We have no Cheltenham price data, so treat these as national ballpark figures and get a quote for your own home.

Where these figures come from

Most figures on this page come from Checkatrade's new boiler cost guide ^[S1]. The page says "Updated 03/26", and its price tables say "Last updated: March 2026". Figures for moving a boiler come from Checkatrade's boiler moving guide ^[S2], whose table says "Last updated: June 2026". We read both on 30 September 2026. They are UK figures, not Cheltenham prices, and they are not a quote. A local quote may differ.

Cost by job (gas boilers, supply and install)

Checkatrade's gas combi row splits that total into the boiler, at £650 to £3,000, and installation, at £1,000 to £2,000 ^[S1]. Its summary table gives a supply-only average of £1,500 for each of combi, system, conventional and condensing boilers ^[S1].

A note on bigger numbers. You may see £3,000 to £15,000 quoted as the total for a new boiler. That range is from the same guide, but it covers every fuel type, including biomass ^[S1], so it is not a gas-only figure. For a gas boiler, the figures above are the ones to use.

How long it takes

Checkatrade says ^[S1]:

• a like-for-like replacement takes about 4 to 6 hours;
• a regular boiler to combi conversion takes about 1.5 to 2 days;
• a system boiler to combi conversion takes up to about 3 days.

Engineers usually charge a day rate. Checkatrade gives an average of about £300 a day for labour ^[S1].

Extras to budget for

Checkatrade lists these costs ^[S1][S2]:

• powerflush before a new boiler: about £1,000 including VAT ^[S1];
• chemical flush, a different and cheaper job: £350 to £800 ^[S2];
• magnetic system filter: £60 to £160 to buy, plus £50 to £150 to fit ^[S1]. The moving guide gives £150 to £225, an average of £175 ^[S2];
• smart thermostat or controls: about £150 supply only ^[S1]. The moving guide gives £100 to £650, an average of £400 ^[S2];
• replacing a radiator: about £200 labour ^[S1].

Moving the boiler

Moving the boiler adds cost. Checkatrade's two guides give different figures:

• the new boiler guide gives labour of about £1,000 ^[S1];
• the moving guide gives £600 to £1,000 to move an existing boiler, an average of £800 ^[S2].

The moving guide also gives about £2,650 for a new mid-range combi in a different place, £400 to £600 for pipework and fittings, and £75 to £125 per metre for flue extension pipe or bends ^[S2]. A moved boiler needs a flue that reaches a safe point outside, and a new hole for it ^[S2]. Most moves take one to two days ^[S2].

What pushes the price up or down

Checkatrade names these factors ^[S1]:

• the type of boiler and the fuel;
• whether it is a like-for-like swap;
• pipework updates, and moving the boiler;
• difficult access;
• the warranty and brand;
• location: labour is dearer in London and the South East.

What size of boiler?

Checkatrade's sizing guide is older than its price tables: it says "Last updated: September 2023" ^[S1]. It suggests about 24 to 27 kW for a home with 5 to 10 radiators, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and 28 to 34 kW for 10 to 20 radiators, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms ^[S1]. The installer should size the boiler for your own home.
